Campus Highlights
The Talking Leaves Job Corps Center is operated by the Cherokee Nation and is located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, within one half mile of the Nation's headquarters. Talking Leaves is an Indian preference vocational training facility for Native American youth from all parts of the United States. However, most of the youth served are from Oklahoma and in particular, Eastern Oklahoma.

Success Stories
Locally, graduates are often placed as electrical wirers with Kelley Grants Electric in Tahlequah. Clerical students often work as administrative office assistants for the Cherokee Nation. Students from the food service trade are often placed as cooks at the Pepper Mill and at other hotels and restaurants in the area. In addition, students are placed as home health aides at Cherokee County Nursing Center.

Community Involvement
Talking Leaves Job Corps Center students serve their community through a variety of volunteer activities, such as a voter registration drive for Native Americans, and community service projects. Students recently re-landscaped the Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah as part of a renovation project. Students also actively participate yearly in the Cherokee National Holiday. Students are also involved in many parades in the area, such as the Strawberry Festival parade in Stilwell, Christmas parades in Tahlequah, Stilwell, Wagoner, Muskogee, Sallisaw, Jay, Tulsa, & Pryor, the Cherokee National Holiday parade in Tahlequah, and the Veterans parade in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

Placement
Approximately 270 youth will be graduated each year and with the assistance from Center staff secure long term employment with good jobs - entry wages are on the average $7.54 per hour or more.

Campus Description
Talking Leaves Job Corps Center opened in 1978 on the campus of Northeastern State University. The center is now located on a 22-acre campus in a new facility designed and constructed with the needs of Job Corps students in mind. It serves approximately 400 students each year.
