What does it cost to hire a Talking Leaves graduate?
|
|
There is no out-of-pocket cost to hire a Talking Leaves graduate – it’s a free
program. |
|
|
|
Will there be a lot of Government regulation of my business if I
hire a Talking Leaves student? |
|
No.
Talking Leaves will not interfere on the work-site, although the center is
available should you want to give feedback on the student’s performance.
The graduates do maintain contact with Talking Leaves, but that is done during
non-working hours. |
|
|
|
Can I hire the students on an interim basis?
|
|
Yes.
You may hire students as interns under the program’s work-based learning
system which allows you to hire the student on a temp-to-perm basis. The
work-based learning period usually lasts between 6-12 weeks and Talking
Leaves
graduates are considered federal employees during this period as far as
workman’s compensation is concerned. (Therefore you are not liable for any
worker’s compensation coverage during their interim period.) |

employability skills. Students are trained in one of 6 vocations. The
industries include health care, foodservice, business technology, building
apartment maintenance and electrical wiring! |

like with any employee, sometimes the match doesn’t work out. We encourage
you to stay in touch with
Dennis Carter, Work-Based Learning Coordinator to inform him of any concerns or problems that arise with your employee and to try
again. |

recruiting. |
